Genuine B-3 Bomber Jacket
- Product Review (submitted on February 8, 2016):
This is something I was chasing for a very, very long time, even while living in Florida for years. I never quite pulled the trigger on a real shearling, though, obviously because the Florida heat made such a purchase questionable at best. But believe it or not, an even bigger reason is that I am the fussiest person on the planet when it comes to how my clothes fit. I didn't just want a shearling, I wanted a shearling that looked like it was made especially for me.
Fortunately, I left our nation's swamp and moved up to more civilized climates. But now I needed a real winter coat. Ah, shearling time! But it still had to fit!
Enter Cockpit USA, and their unbelievably patient and accommodating staff. I can't thank them enough for allowing me to come by the showroom and try on every single shearling they sell, in several different sizes. Finding the right fit wasn't an issue, though...having to choose which one of the many amazing jackets was! After agonizing over the choice between an RAF and the Genuine B-3, I finally went with the B-3. No better place to start than with the classic, right?
Now, how does it hold up? Incredibly. You will not be cold in one of these. Rain doesn't seem to trouble it. knock it around, scrape it against stuff accidentally, and it just ends up looking even cooler.
This is a jacket with stories to tell, and I want to hear them all.
Sizing: I like my clothes to fit me stylishly. I cannot stand loose fitting jackets. I am 5'11", about 175 to 180lbs, and like a snug fit. For me, size 34 was absolutely perfect. Tight enough to wear it with just a t-shirt underneath, or a sweater if it is really brutal outside and I want to get real snuggly and insulated. If you prefer a looser fit and like to layer, and you are about my size, a 36 would probably do it for you.
