The precursor to the famous G-1 and J1 flight jackets, the 37J1 was first issued in the 1920s to the earliest US Navy carrier pilots all the way through the earliest days of WWII. Constructed of khaki cotton twill or olive bedford cord cotton for cooler weather wear, navy pilots wore this mid-weight all-season jacket on the flight decks of the US Navy’s oldest aircraft carriers in the 1920s and 1930s. Cockpit USA’s re-creation of this classic Naval history staple is on par with the originals first issued. Pre washed to mimic a vintage J1 jacket, the made in USA USN 37J1 jacket is created for those who honor history.

Thought of this as the ideal late spring / early summer jacket, and indeed it is! Very good quality, comfortable to wear, and makes you feel like you really have that Brewster Buffalo waiting for you at the airfield... Note that it's the '30s-typical, trim "military fit", which means it sizes a bit trimmer around shoulders and torso: I ordered one size larger, and that turned out to be just perfect with me. I had an older version that was given to me as a gift in the 90's. I have since out grown it and I'm glad to see it back again. Great jacket for three season use like in Florida. The older one does not have USN on the left jacket, can you get this without the USN stencil on it? (Posted on 4/4/2018)
