With open cockpit fighters in mind, this jacket was originally designed for the Royal Air Force (R.A.F) in 1937 with very thick shearling. Proving too cumbersome for the tight enclosed cockpit of the Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft, these pilots tailored their jackets to shear down the wool to allow more freedom of movement. Cockpit USA has introduced this short sheared sheepskin version, light enough to wear with a sweater or other layering pieces. Please note that the shearling is tanned to “antique” as you wear it, giving “highs and lows” in the color so it looks as if you had this jacket since WWII. This will not affect the durability of this product. This jacket is also available in Long sizes. Sheepskin varies from production to production but you'll always receive the same quality and warmth from Cockpit USA Not sure which size to get? 1. Beyond My Expectations Review by J. Patrick Murphy

First of all, I wanted one of these jackets since I was a little boy. The moment I opened up the box and pulled that sucker out I realized I had something very special. The very first thing I noticed about the Fighter Weight was the actual weight of it. It was substantial enough to know before putting it on I had something very luxurious in my hands and well made. The actual hand of the jacket was very soft. B/c of the feel of the jacket it just makes you want to put it on.

They say, you have to break in leather jackets. Not this one. Nope... This thing is Awesome right out of the box ! This was put together very well. I can honestly say, I can see why this was built to withstand combat. It’s military spec and so Bad Ass ! I know a lot guys want the jacket Tom Hardy wore. That was the original RAF Bomber. Many of the Brit Pilots found the original way too bulky. The Fighter Weight is a trimmed down version of the original and so much more versatile. My opinion is if Tom Hardy wore the Fighter Weight guess what everyone would be buying...lol. The buckle and leather strap on the bottom of the jacket are gorgeous in person. The Fighter Weight is a much better looking jacket and I will get a lot more use out of it.

I’m 48 years young, 6’3, and 225 LBS. I lift weights and stay in shape. I have large shoulders and a thin waste. I would say the size 46 is a generous 46. You will be able to layer sweaters if need be. I will definitely have the jacket “taken in’ on the waist portion of the jacket. I like more clothes more form fitting. Cockpit constructed the jacket to give more shoulder room which is another slam dunk for The Fighter Weight.

I live in Austin Texas and travel back to the North East and wanted something I could wear in the Texas fall/winter and in the North East. This is the perfect jacket. Thank you Cockpit for providing us with such amazing historical pieces.

The RAF Bomber Jacket, like all Cockpit's items I have purchased is of the finest craftsmanship, style and quality. The packaging was secure, and delivery was on time, during a 100% heatwave :-). I look forward to wearing it *when it is colder. A great addition to my Cockpit wardrobe. (Posted on 7/5/2017)

Incredible jacket. Don't know why I waited Don't know why I waited so long to get one.
I also purchased a B3 December, 2016 as I was looking for something warmer than down for those early morning and late night walks with my dog.
Neither of these jackets will disappoint, believe me.
Jackie, Stanley and the staff are great.
Thank you for your great service. (Posted on 3/10/2017)

I recently received my RAF Fighter Weight Sheepskin Bomber Jacket and I am happy to say it's everything I expected it to be. Highest quality and a very good fit. It's the type of product that lasts a lifetime. Might even serve as an incentive to live more healthily ... ;-) (Posted on 1/18/2017)

  5. Scramble!! Review by MaGooF15

Now all I need is a Spit. This is my new "wear all the time" fall/winter coat. Incredibly comfortable and very warm despite the "Fighter weight" shearling fur, especially when compared to the bulkier B-3 (which I still love on frigid days). The arms are more manueverable due to extra gusset piece that the B-3 doesn't have. The belt was a feature I thot might be annoying but the RAF "one notch buckle" is both stylish and easy to latch. A nice feature of the lighter weight allows for comfortable winter layer wear underneath (my Orvis RAF replica turtleneck fits easily under it). The zippers on the sleeves also allow you to roll them back a bit for comfort or if the arms are a tad long as they were in my case. Fits true I think as I have a 40 in all my Cockpit jackets, A-2, B-3, and now Irvin...love 'em all. I've only had it 3 weeks and get compliments on it every time I wear it out. Thanks Cockpit, this retired fighter pilot loves your stuff. (Posted on 1/3/2017)

  6. Great Weight Jacket Review by Hawk Pilot

I have many Shearling jackets and this one has a great medium weight. Light enough for wearing in and out of cars and daily activities. Much less bulky than a full jacket like the B3. Jacket is almost Ox-blood in color with the collar being dark brown. Fit is pretty close to actual size. Arms are a bit loose in forearm to wrist area. And I have muscular arms. Overall a great jacket. The belt is more substantial then expected and has a nice heavy buckle. Will not require breaking in like a full heavy shearling jacket. (Posted on 1/2/2017)
